About the job
As a fisheries inspector, you will conduct fisheries supervision in the county's waters.
The focus is on supervision in the border river, but the county's other wild salmon rivers and coastal areas are also included in the assignment. The role involves operational supervision work in the field together with our fisheries supervision coordinator, and in close collaboration with our Finnish colleagues.
Key aspects of the supervision work include communication and information towards fishermen, volunteer fisheries inspectors, various stakeholder groups, and relevant authorities, which requires good communication skills and confidence in handling various fishing issues.
You should be prepared for work to take place in the field and that travel and overnight stays in other locations are part of your daily routine. Work occurs at varying times of the day. The position is a seasonal employment for approximately 3 months starting June 1. The stationing location is to be agreed upon.
Your responsibilities include:
- Participating in planning and execution of fisheries supervision in the border river
- Ensuring that fishing regulations are followed in waters where the county administrative board conducts fisheries supervision
- Maintaining contact with volunteer fisheries inspectors and other authorities
- Informing fishermen about regulations and working preventively against fishing crimes
- Representing the authority as a civil servant
The work is constantly evolving, and based on our assignment, the tasks may change over time. Therefore, you need to be able to handle changes. At the same time, this gives you opportunities to develop and both broaden and deepen your competence with us.
About you
We are looking for someone who has:
- Completed high school education or equivalent education and/or experience that we assess as equivalent,
- Good communication skills, both orally and in writing in Swedish and English,
- A valid driver's license for a car,
- Experience with boats and fieldwork.
As a person, you have good social skills and the ability to collaborate and enjoy working in a team to solve problems. You are used to working independently and taking your own initiatives and identifying necessary processes/steps in the work. Furthermore, you have a sense of order and are responsible.
We consider it an advantage if you have:
- Knowledge of the Finnish language and local knowledge of Tornedalen,
- Experience in fisheries supervision, or experience from other security, order, or information activities,
- Experience in professional or voluntary work within fish management,
- Experience working in a government agency or municipal operations.
For us, personal qualities are important, and we see it as a given that you contribute positively to our work environment and work joy and act according to the public value framework.
Good to know
If you are called for an interview, you may be asked to perform a work test.
Since some jobs with us require security clearance, you may be required to undergo a security clearance process before employment. This includes a security interview and background check. For certain positions, Swedish citizenship is required.
